I first ‘met’ Dee when we connected over scoring internships at Miss Omni Media. From there it was love. Dee is a hard working, focused hustler and has proven to be one of the stronger women I know purely because of the finesse in which she has dealt with life’s curveballs. She has, and will continue to be that little voice in my ear that makes me work that little bit harder to get what I want.

Sappy shit aside, she is one of my ride or die ladies and you should listen up to what she has to say.

What’s your story? Tell me where you are from, what you do and something I don’t know about you.
Well I was born and raised in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania to two parent instead of the standard one (duh). My father, who is an enormous influence in my life, raised me and my siblings to believe that Pittsburgh was this small pimple on the face of the world and that it was our duty to go out and explore, so I’ve grown up believing that Pittsburgh was not to be the only place I’d live, work, play, or grow to love.

When I turned 18 I left home for college in Ohio under the assumption that I’d major in something really respectful, get a piece of expensive paper in 4 years, go to graduate school for another 2 years, then get a respectable job. That didn’t work so well. Only a semester away from my Bachelors degree in Psychology, I dropped out of school, packed my shit, and moved home. A lot of people who I went to school with have tons of fancy ideas as to why I did this. I got good grades, had a lot of ‘friends’, and was well known on campus because of my involvement with my sorority and the community, but that had nothing to do with it. I was totally living someone elses life and the realization had caught up with me in the form of depression, ulcers, and weight loss. EPIC FAIL. So after I left school, I went running home to the arms of my Dad and he ultimately helped me decide what I wanted to be when I finally decided to grow up. So I enrolled in two schools: one to finish my degree and one to pursue my dream of being in the fashion industry. And I’ve been grinding like a one armed slave ever since…

I guess one thing a lot of people don’t really know about me is that I’m a big time sports enthusiast. Not like a total jock, but I’m a fan of soccer, football, and basketball. I played a lot of sports when I was younger, and I was best at golf (go figure!). I’ve met Tiger Woods once, and he was a dick.

When did you start your blog and why?
I started my blog at the beginning of my last year of college, the year I like to refer to as “the Meltdown”. I had recently had my heart broken by a football player I would have never been interested in if his six pack wasn’t so nice, and I was feeling pretty shitty. My friends were becoming far and few between, I was running out of money to pay for my education, and my Dad was having a rough time, so I created my blog as a shoulder to cry on because I couldn’t count on flaky friends and a father who had his own problems. So my blog started off as a big ass bitchfest. The posts I did in the early stages of my blog still make me cringe to this day. I was a fuggin cry baby…

After I came home and started feeling normal, I decided to reinvent my blog as a place where I could post/write about whatever my little heart desired. It’s funny, because once I started writing about all the stuff I loved or loved to hate, my blog helped me define some of my biggest goals. Weird…
What do you mainly write about?
Whatever pops into my head. Sometimes I’ll go on these gossip binges or rants where I’ll totally bitch about celebs, the media, books or movies, my life…and then sometimes I’ll do all these posts about fashion, and the things I’d like to buy but can’t ever seem to afford. Right now I’m finding all this art and photography that I love, so that’s what normally shows up on the blog.

What type of content do you like to read?
I read up on everything. Gossip, fashion, design, politics, pop culture, sports, all of it. I think it’s important as a person, and especially as a writer to be well versed on a bunch of subjects. A lot of bloggers now a days don’t do their research, and nothing gets under my skin more than someone who talks shit and doesn’t back it up. Pisses me off so bad, that when I find it I have to correct it. It’s like a sin if I don’t…

What’s your favorite post of your own?
Well I don’t really have one, it’s more like two I couldn’t decide between. The first one is a rant I had about a NY Post article stating that Kelis was biting Rihanna’s style. Just yet another case of some prick who doesn’t research before they write. If you look back Rihanna entire look is derived from Kelis in so many ways, its so easy to see the similarities. I think what got under my skin the most is that people think Rihanna is some style maven, like she just popped out of the damn sky a fashionista, and this is so not true. Like I said in my post: she’s a nice idea, but not an original one…

And the second post I really enjoyed doing was my interview with blogger Sarah Morrison. Sarah is a really big influence on my work as a blogger. She never fails to amuse me, and for her to even give me the time of day to ask her some questions makes me feel way more special that I should. A lot of people commented on that post, and it made me feel good to know that her interview actually got to people.

Which interface do you find easier to use, Blogger or WordPress?
My main blog is on Blogger, but I have another blog and my portfolio on WordPress. Although I really like Blogger for giving me a little more freedom creativly, it’s hard to get people outside of the blogger network to read and comment on your material. WordPress is great for organization and all sorts of people can read up on what your doing. So I’m going to go with WordPress

What can we expect to see from you in the near future?
Well I’m writing a bunch now a days, and updating my blog and portfolio daily. In January I’m planning on moving to NYC for the spring and summer months to intern at some uber fab magazine, which one, I have no idea, but I’m speaking it into existence so thats a sure bet it’s going to eventually happen!

If I came to your home and looked in your refrigerator, what would I find?
A bunch of healthy food. Like fruits and veggies and all that garbage. My Dad is really into heath and fitness, and since I live with him I’m forced to eat like a vegan (not that vegans aren’t cool or anything).

Common or Levi Maestro?
DAMNIT! This is really hard, because although I really love Common his recent affairs with Man-rena Williams has caused me quite a lot of heartache. I do love to love Levi Maestro, but me following him on twitter has also caused me to look at him differently. He’s a little Judgemental Judy-ish so for this I will go off looks. Common still makes me squirm like a girl who first discovered what an orgasm was…so Common it is.

How do you feel about Mr. T endorsing the FlavourWave?
Mr. T can do no wrong in my eyes. People think he’s played but when George Foreman dies (and he will), Mr. T will take his place in QVC heaven. Mark my words!

Do you have a song you wish was played every time you walked into a club? If so, what is it?
This is really stank, but I wish like hell ‘Freak Like Me’ by Adina Howard would play every time I leave my house and Salt n Peppa’s ‘Shoop’ play every time I came into a club…with me singing the Salt part, and my girl KP rapping Peppa’s. That would be SO AWESOME.

Any last words?
Yes, I would just like to thank Kayta for this obvious opportunty to shamlessly plug my life, as well as my Dad for giving me 5 minutes of peace from helping him garden to fill this out. I live a life of leisure bitches. Get with it, or get lost! Thank you thank you thank you for this!
