A Madwoman's Muse: Affinity Music Group

AMG
I have been sitting here for the last half hour trying to figure out how to introduce these boys. The absolute truth of the matter is that I met Fuego first, started reading the blog, started following Weez on twitter and that is it. I’ve not known them for long but from what I do know, they are down to earth, focussed, hard working individuals, and I’ll drink to that (and I know they will too).

So, what do you know about Affinity Music Group? Well, Styalz Fuego produces the music, and Weez manages things. You can check out Fuego here, and Weez here, but for now we are focusing on the blog.

What’s your story? Tell me where you are from, what you do and something I don’t know about
you.

Fuego: I am Fuego, I am from the greatest town in the land, Byron Bay, I spend most of my day looking at my Blackberry, but when I’m not doing that I produce music to keep me alive. I also did some modelling briefly when I was 14. No words.

Weez: Hi. I’m Weez. Melbourne since a baby, been many places but I love this city. I am one half of Affinity Music, so while Fuego blogs and occasionally makes music, I manage him, X & Hell and Pez and do what I can to make sure the world hears their amazing respective talents.  We also involve ourselves in various other pursuits to further the vision we have for the company, which is simply to create and spread cutting edge, original music.  I also work for Illusive Entertainment as a booker and event co-ordinator.
I am a music tragic,  passionate about creatively written and produced pop and R&B and fascinated by those who create it and the industry that breeds it. I grew up on and still love all sorts of rap music. I also take a huge interest in emerging electronic genres and I stand pretty proud of the Australian dance music scene. I also try to take a mean interest in fashion and kicks but struggle to keep up. I also eat the fuck outta some dumplings at any given chance, my G.O.A.T fabric is velour and I watch way too much NBA.
My all time favourite album is a toss up between Outkast’s ATLiens and D’Angelo’s Voodoo and right this minute I am extremely excited by Ellie Goulding & Starsmith and constantly excited by T-Pain.

One thing you dont know about me, ummmmmm - right now is the first time I have had any sort of substansial hair on my head in 10 years. true story.

When did you start your blog and why?
Fuego: The blog was started in 2005, it was originally wordpress based and it was inspired by Ryan Leslie’s ns4life blog. It was meant to be mainly video blogs with our own content. I remember I had some super corny tagline like “follow the affinity artists on their road to success”. Awful.

What do you mainly write about?
Fuego: Music and girls hotter than ones we’ll ever get. Occasionally clothes and sport, but thats mainly discussed via Twitter.
Weez: To be honest, I find myself so completely consumed with everything we have going on that I barely find the time to blog as much as I should, but when I do, I try to avoid re-blogging and post about something original, whether it be about music, fashion or basketball. Although Fuego holds down the blog most of the time and usually beats me in posting up newer shit. I try to just chime in here and there with something interesting or something Affinity related.

I’ve noticed a common occurrence of half naked women on your blog (which I’m not complaining about at all), would it be safe in assuming that your target audience is mainly the fellas?
Fuego: I don’t think so. I think our target audience is people interested in the music business. I post the hot girls because it helps increase traffic and I really like hot girls.

What type of content do you like to read?
Fuego: Everything you see on the site or via my posts on twitter is kind of like an aggregate of what interests me online. Music, Basketball, Girls, TV shows and Clothes. We’re simple men … did i just say the same thing twice?
Weez: Thank god for Google Reader. Mine is stacked mainly with new music blogs, I try to keep up with everything that is leaking - singles, albums, mixes etc. I love discovering brand new shit that no one has told me about yet. My definite favourites are The Fader, Idolator, Different Kitchen, Discodust, Sports Guys World etc. I used to be a Nah Right everyday kinda guy and now I just find it to be too cluttered with rappers I will struggle to listen to.  Complex is pretty much king blog. Any MP3 blog that uploads with Mediafire is also good with me :)

What’s your favourite post of your own?
Fuego: Any of my regular free music posts are generally super rad. I like this NODECI post right now tho.
Weez: I thought my Thong Song Artful Dodger remix post was pretty epic, considering I didnt even know it existed and I pride myself knowing on such inane things. Also, folks have mentioned the Larry Johnson Grandma post to me a bit the last few days haha. I’m sure I have written about more important things than the Thong Song and a cross-dressing under-acheiver but thats sticks out right now.  Plus the word ’writing’ is a bit rich in my case.

Do you like using the Blogger interface?
Fuego: Yeah its cool, they need to make a Blackberry friendly app asap though.
Weez: I dont mind it but I just recently discovered how great the WordPress interface is and will probably move it all over there at some stage.  In reality, Fuego will get sick of waiting for me and end up doing it.

You use the word ‘pappin’ a lot not only on the blog, but on twitter as well. Explain this phrase.
Fuego: It aint whats poppin’ or whats happening, its whats pappin. Yeah son.

What can we expect from the AMG blog in the near future?
Fuego: Lots more extremely hot girls, mp3s of songs I enjoy, music produced by myself and friends of ours and hopefully more muslim pictures of Loon. We’re also planning on moving from Blogger to our own platform. I’m getting tired of the takedown notices when I’m only trying to help promote artists I enjoy.

Weez, wanna tell us a bit about Hangtime?
Sure! Lets just take a whole bunch of different party genres that everyone seems to dig but seems like bowls of wrong when read together (new jack and electro? seriously), splash out on the guest DJ’s and acts, have it in an iconic Melbourne rock venue, rope in some cool folks, close our eyes and see what happens!

If I came to your home and looked in your refrigerator, what would I find?
Fuego: Absolutely nothing. I haven’t been shopping in over a month. I do drink alot of White Grape and Passionfruit Drink tho. What you know about White Grape? that shit is an enigma of a fruit.
Weez: I cant function without Ribena.

Fuego – Patron or red skittles?
Patron & Skittles with Pineapple Juice. If i had to choose, I’d give up Patron before red Skittles though … with that said, its quite likely Patron is going to be very free for us in the near future – situations pending…

Weez – M.I.A. or Santigold?

Are you kidding? I plan on naming my first born girl Santi.

How do you feel about Mr. T endorsing the FlavourWave?
Fuego: I dont care for this. But I’m hoping an Adult Film company is enterprising enough to do a xxx version of this commercial. That would be fantastic.
Weez: I’m all for it. Get your money Laurence. It’s working too, I want one. Kinda.

Do you have a song you wish was played every time you walked into a club? If so, what is it?
Fuego: I could hear Afrodisiac by Brandy or Try Again by Aaliyah everytime I walked into a club for the next 10 years and I’d smile every time.
Weez: Hardest. Question. Evar. – SWV & Wu – “Anything” or “My Cool” – Adam Tensta.

Any last words?

Fuego: Yes

Weez: All hail Queen Kayta!
